Set Up Mac OS X Mail for ISU Exchange

These instructions are for setting up the Mac Mail.app to use ISU Exchange in Mac OS X 10.7.x (Lion) or 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) respectively. If you are using a previous version of Mac OS X, contact the Solution Center for assistance configuring your system.

For 10.7.x (Lion) Only

  1. Open Mail from the Applications folder.
  2. The Add Account window will open on the first launch of Mail. If the Welcome screen does not open go to Mail > Preferences, click the Account tab at the top of the screen and click the Add button (plus sign) in the bottom left corner and proceed to the next step.
  3. Fill in your Full Name, your Email Address as [netid]@mail.iastate.edu, and your Password, then click Continue.
  4. The boxes to sync your Mac's Address Book contacts and iCal calendar are checked by default. Uncheck these boxes if you do not wish to sync your contacts and calendar. Click Continue.
  5. Mail should now begin synchronizing with your Exchange account. iCal and Address Book will synchronize the next time you launch Mail.

For 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) Only

  1. Open Mail from the Applications folder.
  2. The Welcome to Mail window will open on the first launch of Mail. If the Welcome screen does not open go to Mail > Preferences, click the Account tab at the top of the screen and click the Add button (plus sign) in the bottom left corner and proceed to the next step.
  3. Fill in your Full Name, your Email Address as [netid]@mail.iastate.edu, and your Password (optional), then click Continue.
  4. In the Incoming Mail Server window, verify the following information is entered in these fields:
    • Account Type: Exchange 2007
    • Description: Exchange
    • Incoming Mail Server: exchange.iastate.edu
    • User Name: Your Net-ID
    • Password: This field will be pre-populated with your password
    To make changes to any of this information, click Go Back.
  5. The boxes to sync your Mac's Address Book contacts and iCal calendar are checked by default. Uncheck these boxes if you do not wish to sync your contacts and calendar.
  6. After reviewing the Incoming Mail Server information, click Continue.
  7. Verify the information in the Account Summary screen, check Take Account Online and click Create.
  8. Mail should now begin synchronizing with your Exchange account. iCal and Address Book will synchronize the next time you launch Mail.
