Register Your Wireless Device to Access the Iowa State Network

You must register your wireless device to access the ISU wireless networks throughout campus. Follow these steps to complete the registration process.

General Instructions

  1. Turn your device on and choose a wireless network. If you do not see a message to join the ISU wireless network, go to your device's wireless settings and select the ISU wireless network with the strongest signal (IASTATE, RES-CARDINAL, or RES-GOLD).
  2. You should be directed to the ISU NetReg page. If you are not directed to the NetReg page, open a web browser on your device and go to http://netreg.iastate.edu.
  3. Enter your Net-ID and password and click "Next".
  4. Verify your computer name and subdomain and click "Next".
  5. Verify your domain and location and click "Next".
  6. Click "I Agree" on the NAT screen and the device will be registered.
  7. Wait until the network assigns an IP address to your device (this may take up to 15 minutes), and reboot your device when prompted.
  8. You should now be ready to use the ISU network with this device.

Mobile Devices

iOS (iPad, iPhone, & iPod)

  1. Select the ISU wireless network with the strongest signal (IASTATE, RES-CARDINAL, or RES-GOLD). If you are not prompted to select a network, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Open the Safari web browser and you should be directed to the ISU NetReg page. If you are not directed to the NetReg page, go to http://netreg.iastate.edu.
  3. Under Students/Faculty/Staff enter your Net-ID and password in the login and click "Next".
  4. On the next screen, click "I agree".
  5. Wait until the network assigns an IP address to your device (this may take up to 15 minutes), and reboot your device.
  6. You should now be ready to use the ISU network with this device.

If the above registration process did not work, please contact the Solution Center with the following information:

  • Your Iowa State Net-ID
  • The device's MAC address. To find the MAC addresses of your device, go to Settings > General > About > Wi-Fi Address.

Android Devices & Other Smartphones & Tablets

  1. Connect to the ISU wireless network with the strongest signal (IASTATE, RES-CARDINAL, or RES-GOLD).
  2. Open a web browser on the device and you should be directed to the ISU NetReg page. If you are not directed to the NetReg page, go to http://netreg.iastate.edu.
  3. Under Students/Faculty/Staff enter your Net-ID and password in the login and click "Next".
  4. On the next screen, click "I agree".
  5. Wait until the network assigns an IP address to your device (this may take up to 15 minutes), and reboot your device.
  6. You should now be ready to use the ISU network with this device.

If the above registration process did not work, please contact the Solution Center with the following information:

  • Your Iowa State Net-ID
  • The device's MAC address. To find the MAC addresses of your device:
    1. Click on the Home button at the bottom of the device to go to the Home screen.
    2. Select Menu > Settings > About Phone > Status.
    3. Scroll down to see your "Wi-Fi MAC address".
    4. If you are still unable to find the MAC address, consult your device's manual.

Game Consoles

The ISU network now automatically detects and registers game systems so they no longer have to be manually registered through the Solution Center. Please note that the process has been known to take up to 15 minutes for some systems.

Xbox

  1. Plug the Xbox in and attempt to connect to Xbox Live.
  2. Power off the Xbox and disconnect it from the Ethernet port and the power cable.
  3. Wait for a minute.
  4. Plug in the power and Ethernet cable back in and power on the Xbox.

If you are still unable to connect please contact the Solution Center with the following information:

  • Your Iowa State Net-ID
  • Your building/room
  • The Xbox's MAC address. To find the MAC address:
    1. Turn on the Xbox with no disk in the tray.
    2. Select Xbox Live.
    3. Select Connect Status.
    4. Select Settings.
    5. The MAC address is the 12-digit number in the bottom right of the screen.

PS3

  1. Plug the PS3 in and attempt to connect to the IASTATE network.
  2. Power off the PS3 and disconnect it from the Ethernet port and the power cable.
  3. Wait for a minute.
  4. Plug in the power and Ethernet cable back in and power on the PS3.

If you are still unable to connect please contact the Solution Center with the following information:

  • Your Iowa State Net-ID
  • Your building/room
  • The PS3's MAC address. To find the MAC address:
    1. Turn on the Xbox with no disk in the tray
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Network Settings.
    4. Select Settings and Connection Status List.
    5. Near the bottom you will see MAC Address. DO NOT mistake the console's MAC address for the network gateway's, which will appear before its own.

Wii

  1. Plug the Wii in and attempt to connect to the IASTATE network.
  2. Power off the Wii and disconnect it from the Ethernet port and the power cable.
  3. Wait for a minute.
  4. Plug in the power and Ethernet cable back in and power on the Wii.

If you are still unable to connect please contact the Solution Center with the following information:

  • Your Iowa State Net-ID
  • Your building/room
  • The PS3's MAC address. To find the MAC address:
    1. Select Wii settings from the Wii Channel menu (the round button in the bottom left corner of the screen that says "Wii" on it).
    2. Select Internet.
    3. Select Console Settings.
    4. The MAC address of the Wii console is displayed on the first line.

Internet-ready Televisions

Many new TVs have the ability to access the Internet. However, unlike mobile devices and game consoles, TVs will need to be manually registered. Please contact the Solution Center with the following information:
  • Your Iowa State Net-ID
  • The TV's MAC address. To find the TV's MAC address:
    1. Check the manual.
    2. Check the TV's on-screen menus and settings.
    3. Check to see if the MAC address is listed on a sticker on the back of the TV.
    4. If you are still unable to find the MAC address, contact the television's manufacturer support.
