University Studios
University Studios offers the latest technology, expertise and flexibility for you to create professional audio and video material for use in teaching and learning, production and outreach.
Equipment and facilities, fully staffed and managed, include:
- State-of-the-art digital television production system
- Fully-digital video plant, complete with SDI backbone
- Two 2,500-square foot studios, each with three digitally-processed, 3CCD, 850-line cameras
- Switchable aspect ratio system between the traditional 4:3 format and new 16:9 format
- Two control rooms that each contain a 2.5 mix/effects switcher, 24-channel stereo audio mixer, character generator and still store
- Digital video effects and A/B/C roll editing capabilities
- Digital-S and DV recording format, along with analog Betacam SP, MII, U-Matic SP, and S-VHS
- Capability of recording live or edited programming as well as transmitting live programming via C or Ku satellite uplinks
- Direct to DVD recording
- Live streaming output
Who can use University Studios?
The facilities were designed to be used by the four University Studios partners: IT Services, Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, Continuing Education and Communication Systems, and WOI Radio. Others wishing to use the facilities are required to work through one of these four partners. Access for students and their club organizations will be via the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication.
Students, faculty, staff and university partners can utilize the studios for:
- Teaching courses and programs
- Training for careers in television production, corporate and instructional videography and broadcast journalism
- Producing programming for broadcast television, cable or instructional videos
- Distance education activities and functions
- Outreach programming and research dissemination
- Iowa State promotion activities
