Be Aware You're Uploading

This news item expired on 30 Sep 2009. It may contain out-of-date information.

Be Aware You're Uploading (BAYU) is a new automated Iowa State service. It notifies campus network users when they might be unlawfully uploading using peer-to-peer (P2P) filesharing technology. Users are notified via email when BAYU detects traffic from a computer that indicates uploading is taking place.

The ease of using P2P technology makes it easy to upload files unintentionally; you could be illegally sharing copyrighted files without even knowing it. BAYU serves as a way to alert you to uploading that could leave you and your computer at risk.
