BlackBerry Activation Using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
This document provides step-by-step information on how to install BlackBerry Manager software on a Windows workstation and how to activate your BlackBerry using this software to communicate to the IT Services Exchange server.
Software Installation
Run BlackBerry User tools from included CD. Do not attach device until instructed to do so.
BlackBerry Desktop Software InstallShield Wizard
- Click Next
- Select USA (English) and click Next
- Select I accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next
- Enter User Name and Organization (Iowa State University)
- Select Install this application for: Anyone and click Next
- Accept the default location and click Next
- Select Typical and click Next
- Select BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Desktop Redirector and click Next
- Select Microsoft Exchange and click Next
- Select Redirect messages using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and click Next
- Check Start desktop manager automatically...
- Check Create a shortcut for desktop manager..., and click Next
- Click Install
- Click Finish
- Restart station
Activation through BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Ensure that IT Services BlackBerry Administrators have added your Exchange account to the BlackBerry server and have sent you an activation password.
Ensure that the device has been activated through your wireless provider and that the wireless connection is enabled on the device.
- Launch BlackBerry Desktop Manager
- Attach BlackBerry device
- Select Options > Connection Settings
- Click Detect
- Click OK three times
- Click OK when prompted to generate a new encryption key
- Move mouse in random fashion to generate a new key
Synchronization to Exchange mail server should begin.
Configuring Device Backup
- Launch BlackBerry Desktop Manager
- Double-click Backup and Restore
- Click Options
- Click Automatically backup my device every
- Set time frame for backups (default is 7 days)
- Click Click Backup all device application data
- Click OK
- Click Close
- Minimize the BlackBerry Desktop Manager when complete
