Assumptions

A few settings need to be made on your computer before it can be used on the campus network. You will not need to know your IP settings because they will be assigned to your computer using a technology called DHCP.

If you need help with the settings, the Student Network Access Program (SNAP) team can assist you. Contact them in 195 Durham Center or at 515-294-4000.

Setting Up Your Mac OS X Computer

  1. Under the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
  2. Click the Network icon and set Show (or Configure) to Ethernet [Airport, if wireless].
  3. [Wireless only] Click the AirPort tab, and set your Preferred Network (IASTATE, RES-GOLD, or RES-CARDINAL).
  4. Click the TCP/IP tab, and set Configure to Using DHCP.
  5. In the Search Domains, enter: iastate.edu
  6. Quit System Preferences. Save the changes when prompted to do so.

To register your connection, open a web browser, go to this link and follow the instructions:

http://netreg.iastate.edu/

At this point, you should be connected. For more technical assistance, contact the Solution Center in 195 Durham Center or at 515-294-4000.
