Types of Desktop Videoconferencing
There are three basic type of desktop videoconferencing: One-to-One, Multi-Site, and Large Group. The different types of desktop videoconferencing generally all require the same software, but the hardware requirements for Large Group Videoconferencing are somewhat different and are dealt with separately.
One-To-One is the simplest type of videoconferencing, where one person sits in front of a computer at one location and interacts with one other person at a remote site. A basic hardware configuration and any of the software packages listed on the software page may be used of this type of videoconferencing.
Multi-Site Videoconferencing involves several people, each at his or her own location with a basic hardware configuration. They are all able to see and hear one another at the same time. Not all software supports this scenario and all sites will need to be operating under the same software package.
