ITS Web Development Services (WebDev) offers a variety of services to augment, develop, manage, and better maintain web material. We use a combination of full-time staff and talented student employees to provide superior service at a reasonable cost. These services are available to all departments and units at Iowa State. Virtual Web Hosting
Our virtual web hosting service allows you to take advantage of the benefits of having a web server without the challenges of actually maintaining a machine. Some of the benefits include: a clear concise web address without ~ / _ - characters in the form of www.name.iastate.edu; hourly detailed hit statistics; customizable feedback forms; a site-specific search mechanism; 1GB disk quota; MySQL database availability ; nightly backups; and PHP scripting.
Tools / Script Design
WebDev can provide you with easy solutions to your web scripting needs. Whether it is a customized feedback script, a data collection mechanism, an interactive form, a survey mechanism, or an authenticated voting system, we can provide the solution.
Site Management
This is our complete web solution: "You provide the material, we maintain the website." This option results in a consistent and continuous level of service not available using "extra-duty" staff or micro-managed student web authors. Our developers are part of a team of web specialists. By combining resources, we are able to provide web authors with tools, equipment, and training that is generally cost-prohibitive for individual departments.
Our Equipment
Our services all run on Dell PowerEdge server-class machines running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, Apache HTTP Server 2.0, MySQL Database Server 4.1, and PHP 5.2. Known as a LAMP environment, we leverage the power of open-source to keep our costs down and our productivity high. Our equipment is monitored 24/7 by ITS Operations staff who perform daily backups and a machine room that offers a secure environment with full UPS and environmental controls.
