Information Technology Services is seeking applicants for Part-Time Application Developers to help develop and support software for the university. Our employees work as part of modern agile teams, tackling projects both big and small. We count on the skills, dependability, and self-motivation of both our full-time and part-time staff to meet the needs of our university’s faculty, staff, students, and clients.

Our different teams each focus on one or more of the following technologies:

  • Java, Spring Framework, JUnit, Thymeleaf, JSP
  • PHP, MySQL, Zend Framework
  • COBOL, DB2, Mainframe, Batch Jobs, Business Logic
  • C#, .NET Framework, Visual Studio
  • Android Java, Android Studio (IntelliJ), Android SDK
  • iOS Programming, Objective C, Swift, Xcode, iOS SDK
  • JavaScript, Bootstrap, jQuery, ReactJS

On many of these teams, we have opportunities for systems analysis, database design, software development, quality assurance, project management, and more.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with one or more modern programming languages (e.g. Java, PHP, COBOL, C, Swift)
  • Experience with modern programming principles (e.g. Object Oriented Programming, Model-View-Controller, Database Design, Unit Testing)
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Iowa State University

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate majoring in a related study (e.g. Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems)
  • Ability to work 15-20 hours/week during fall/spring semesters, and 40 hours/week during the summer
  • Self-motivated, quick and eager to learn, dependable, team-oriented

Technical Assistant

Customer Success

If you are looking for a fun and educational environment to begin or advance your technology skills and knowledge, submit your application for a position within our Customer Success team. Customer Success positions focus on ensuring the success of students, faculty, and staff of Iowa State in their use of Information Technology resources.

The Customer Success team includes both technical and non-technical positions that work directly with customers to handle a variety of tasks. Our customer Success team positions include:

  • Solution Center where you will troubleshoot and resolve system issues
  • Computer Repair where Microsoft or Dell certifications are a plus!
  • Computer & Software Installation where experience troubleshooting with Windows and Macintosh is helpful, but not required
  • Network Engineering
  • Non-technical positions that assist with campus deliveries and movement of equipment

Ideal applicants will be customer success oriented with excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication, the ability to identify root causes of problems and provide successful solutions. Minimum starting rate of pay is $10.50 per hour.

Required Qualifications

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft or Dell certifications for computer repair related positions
  • Experience troubleshooting with Windows and Macintosh
  • Technical writing experience
  • Direct experience working with customers
  • Multilingual skills
  • Ability to work 15 to 20 hours per week
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 45 pounds
