Purchase a University-owned Computer

The following information is intended to help you purchase a computer from TechCYte using funds from an ISU account. For information on purchasing a computer for personal use, see How To Purchase a Personal Computer. You should consult with your departmental IT coordinator for help on the kind of equipment you might require for your needs.

  1. Purchase Your Hardware.

    • Tech CYte, located in the ISU bookstore in the Memorial Union, is Iowa State’s computer hardware and software resource. Information on ordering a computer and software can be found on the Tech CYte page.
    • You can buy Dell computers through Tech CYte with current Microsoft software installed at the factory. Once you receive the computer, you can simply plug it in and it is ready to go. Computers for CorePlus clients will also come registered with email set up and file storage established.
  2. Load Additional Software.

    • Licensed

Tech CYte sells most standard software; however, if you are an ISU employee, check with your local IT coordinator to see if there is a site license for the software you want before purchasing.

    • Ready for Download

Some software is available to download free of charge to individuals with an Iowa State Net-ID. For a list of software available at no fee, visit the Software Downloads page.

    • Additional Software

Additional software downloads are available on our Site-licensed Software page. Some items on this page require a fee.

  3. Know Where to Get Technical Support.

Visit the Desktop Support service page for more information on the levels of support available to university-owned computers.
