Traveling with Lithium Batteries

This news item expired February 24, 2008. It may contain out-of-date information.
New rules regarding carrying lithium batteries on aircraft went into effect on January 1 of this year. You may no longer carry spare batteries in checked baggage, though equipment with batteries attached can be included in your checked baggage.

Spare batteries may be carried with your carry-on baggage, but must be in original packaging or in a plastic bag to prevent accidental shorting of the battery contacts. Additional restrictions apply to large extended-life lithium batteries.
