Technical Briefing With Sharepoint Portal technologies, universities can offer online learning opportunities, blogging, enhanced collaboration among students and faculty through online communities, document management, and provide services such as class registration and financial aid from a single point of entry through a web browser. Microsoft portal solutions are built on the combination of Windows Server 2003, Windows SharePoint Services, Microsoft Office 2003, and Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003. These technologies provide a rich suite of integrated portal capabilities, including real-time collaboration, teaching and curriculum management, enterprise application integration, and a highly customizable platform for the delivery of information and applications. Portal solutions built on Microsoft technologies also enable flexible access from multiple devices, including mobile and wireless devices, and single-logon technologies. The Microsoft Portal solution is a horizontal portal framework that can integrate information from local applications, WebCT, Exchange, local campus websites, personal sites, and the library system.
