Security Notice: "Conficker" Worm Requires Immediate Patch

This news item expired April 15, 2009. It may contain out-of-date information.
IT Services has become aware of a worm, Conficker, which exploits unpatched Windows systems and is set to activate on April 1st, 2009. It is not known yet what this worm will do.

To protect your computer, immediately run the Windows updater and install patch MS08-067 (and other Microsoft critical security patches), and reboot your computer.

There is a chance that Conficker may already be installed on your system. When it installs itself, it installs the MS08-067 patch on top of it to hide.

If you think your system may be infected, run a McAfee On-Demand scan. Please make sure your McAfee Virus Scan is using the most current virus signature file (.dat 5562 or later) and reboot.

If you have any questions, please contact the IT Services Solution Center at 515-294-4000.
