IT Services Supports Live Green

Reducing energy use and eliminating waste are two accomplishments realized through the work of ITS personnel in support of President Geoffrey's Live Green initiative. Started in 2008, the Live Green initiative challenged ISU community members to help ISU be a leader in sustainability among land-grant institutions and to recognize that the involvement of every member of the ISU community is critical to achieving this goal. Implementing mandatory sleep settings on all ITS supported computers, converting to virtual servers, and setting network printers to print in duplex by default are just a few of the measures ITS has taken in support of the Live Green initiative. Senior Systems Analyst Mike Lohrbach presented information on Live Green measures undertaken by IT Services at the 3rd Annual Symposium on Sustainability on Monday. In conjunction with these efforts, IT Services recently launched its own Green IT web page, which highlights many of the ways ITS is helping ISU to Live Green.
