Managing Your Outlook Exchange Account

This news item expired May 15, 2011. It may contain out-of-date information.
In an effort to be efficient with resources that support Outlook Exchange accounts, new standards for how long certain items will remain in email folders on the Exchange servers will soon be implemented. Beginning April 18, 2011, items older than 30 days will be deleted from the "Deleted Items" and "Junk E-mail" folders. These new standards are designed to reduce storage requirements for the Exchange servers which will help keep costs down and enable the system to function more efficiently. While deleted messages are retained and recoverable for an additional 30 days after the date of deletion using the ’Recover Deleted Items“ option, users are encouraged to move any important messages from these folders to avoid the loss of any information.

Exchange users can help in the effort to keep storage needs down by performing regular maintenance on their accounts which will help keep costs down for all users. Deleting messages that are no longer needed and setting specific folders to automatically archive or delete their contents on a regular basis are just two procedures users can perform to reduce the need for additional storage.
