ISU Provides Antivirus Protection

This news item expired March 27, 2012. It may contain out-of-date information.

Iowa State University (ISU) currently licenses Microsoft ForeFront for use on Windows based computer systems and McAfee VirusScan for Macintosh computers. These licenses are only for use on systems owned by ISU. The contracts for these licenses are regularly reviewed with decisions being made via a joint effort of ITS, campus IT, and Purchasing. The McAfee contract for Macintosh systems is up for renewal on June 29, 2012. Based on campus feedback from surveys and input at the Macintosh Administrators meetings, we are gathering information on use and preferences of those who currently use McAfee. Please provide this feedback and any comments to

antivirus (at) iastate (dot) edu
or to the campus Macintosh support mailing list .

In addition to university-owned systems, it is recommended that users protect their home computer systems. There are many software packages available free of charge for home use for both Windows and Macintosh computers. ITS currently recommends the use of Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows and Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition for Macintosh. For additional recommendations please contact your local IT support.

Software for both university-owned and home systems is available through our Windows Software page and the Mac OS X Software page.
