Make Your Phone Your Own: Time for Templates
Did you know that your telephone has a template? When ISU installed the new Aastra telephones over the summer, a default template was applied to all phones. Now that installation is complete, ITS can work with each user to help make your telephone work the way you want it to.
What is a phone template?
Your telephone template allows you to determine the softkeys you have on your telephone display. You can decide how many, if any, of these softkeys you would like, and where you would like them to be. Templates have presets for the number of lines you choose (1-4 available) and which softkeys are displayed on your first, second or third page. This includes Speed Dial, Busy Lamp Field, Voice Mail, Do Not Disturb, and many more.
How do I get a new template?
ISU, through Aastra, offers three types of templates for each telephone model; Basic, Expansion Module, and Call Center. For example, if you have a 6737i telephone with no Expansion module and you are not in a call center, you would select one of the 6737i Basic templates.
The documents in the Templates section of how to "Use Your Aastra Telephone and Features" list all the standard templates available for each telephone model. When you have selected your template, complete and submit the Telephone Template Request found in that section. ITS anticipates numerous requests for templates, and we appreciate your patience as we give each request the attention it deserves.
A word of caution
Applying a new template to your telephone will reset all softkeys, including speed dials. BLFs (busy lamp fields) that you set up through the web portal will automatically be applied to the new template, but you will need to set up speed dial softkeys. As a precaution, write down any speed dial softkeys you have set up before applying a new template.
