Survey Says: Qualtrics!

Surveys are an important part of coursework and research at ISU, and there are many survey tools available. In order to enable efficient use of survey programs and allow for increased collaboration, ISU recently purchased a campus-wide license for a survey tool called Qualtrics. The service is free for faculty, staff, and students.

Mari Kemis, assistant director of the Research Institute for Studies in Education (RISE), has been using Qualtrics at ISU for about five years as part of her work on and off campus.

"It's very easy to use," Kemis said. She especially appreciates having a variety of options for formatting survey questions including slide bars, drag and drop, and the more traditional formats like matrices.

"Downloading data into Excel and SPSS is fast and accurate," Kemis said. SPSS is a data management program, also available through ISU.

In addition to being easy to use, Qualtrics is secure. "We were pleased to find that Qualtrics offers the level of security needed at a higher learning institution," said Mike Lohrbach, IT senior systems analyst.

Kemis is also a big fan of the customer service provided by Qualtrics, which all ISU users can access as part of the partnership. "If there are any problems, they are right on top of it," she said.

If you, like Kemis, have been using Qualtrics and already have an account, you can migrate your current Qualtrics data to an ISU account. To get started:
