Some Apple laptop batteries recalled

This news item expired June 7, 2005. It may contain out-of-date information.
Apple has notified us of a voluntary recall of certain lithium ion rechargeable batteries that were sold worldwide from October 2004 through May 2005 for use with the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4, and 15-inch PowerBook G4.

The affected batteries could overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Apple urges you to stop using affected batteries and order a replacement battery. You can use your computer by plugging in the AC adapter to power the computer after you‘ve removed the battery.

Details of the recall and a form for requesting replacement batteries is available at:

Note that the exchange must be negotiated directly between the computer owner and Apple. Apple states that "customers may not exchange their batteries at an Apple Retail store or from an Apple service provider" so neither Computer Sales nor Computer Service can facilitate the exchange. However, if you have questions, you can contact Computer Service at .
