Ten Steps to get you started with IT at Iowa State.

1. Know Your Net-ID Password and Keep It Safe

Your Net-ID allows you to log into computers on campus and access other personal information so never share it.

If you forgot your Net-ID password or would like to change it, visit the University Accounts: Net-ID page for more information.

2. Connect to Campus Internet

Wireless internet is available all over campus. Learn how to connect wirelessly through eduroam and register your devices.

Wired internet is available in all residence halls at no charge. Learn which wired, high-speed connection is available to you.

Safe, secure remote/off campus access to campus network services is available, safely and securly, through Iowa State's virtual private network (VPN). Visit the VPN page for more information.

3. Access Your E-mail Account (CyMail)

CyMail provides e-mail, calendaring, file sharing, and storage in an integrated environment.

Visit E-mail for Students: CyMail to learn how to access CyMail, set up CyMail on your mobile device, and forward e-mail to CyMail.

4. Install Free or Discounted Software

Iowa State has a large volume of software available to you at no charge.  Browse and download software for students.

5. Update Your Computer (Or Buy a New One)

Your Solution Center can help make sure your computer has the latest updates and is secure with the latest security software. Iowa State's IT Computer Repair Center can assist with hardware repair and data recovery.

Don't have a computer? Visit the campus store, Tech CYte, to take advantage of discounted education rates on computer hardware, software, peripherals, and electronics.

You can also borrow equipment through Iowa State's equipment and laptop checkout program at no charge.

6. Stay Cyber Secure

Visit the IT Security website for tips on how to keep your computer secure.

7. Stay In The Know

ISU Alert notifies you of potentially dangerous situations on campus. You can choose to have these messages delivered to you in a variety of formats including: text message, e-mail, or telephone. Manage your ISU Alert in AccessPlus

Security Alerts keep you up-to-date on the most recent security scams and alerts.

MyState is your free comprehensive guide to navigating Iowa State including: bus routes, campus maps, and dining centers.

8. Store Your Files

9. Get Collaborating

Iowa State has three collaborative learning spaces fully equipped with office furnishings and media equipment available for your use at no charge. Visit the collaborative learning spaces for more information.

10. Boost Your Skills With Lynda.com

You have unlimited, free access to Lynda.com, an online training library with thousands of video tutorials on topics like Adobe Creative Suite.

Log into Lynda.com using your Net-ID and password.
