Autodesk’s computer-aided design software is available at no charge for personal and educational uses, and includes popular programs like Revit, AutoCAD, Maya, and Inventor.

Mathematica is a program that combines visualization capabilities with computer algebra, and has usage in both research and educational fields. It is free to use on university-owned equipment, or equipment that is located at an Iowa State facility.

MATLAB is available for free through the MathWorks Student Option Program. MATLAB allows users to perform computationally-intensive tasks faster than C, C++, or Fortran. A full list of available MATLAB products can be found at MathWorks.com.

Iowa State University students have access to Office 365 ProPlus for free through the Student Advantage Program. This allows students to install Office on five computers (Windows or Mac) and on five mobile devices. The benefits of the ProPlus program will be severed when the student leaves Iowa State, and the software will function in read-only mode until a license or subscription is purchased by the user.

Microsoft Security Essentials is an anti-virus software recommended for use on personally-owned Windows computers.
Qualtrics is a web-based survey service available at no cost for non-profit use only. Qualtrics allows users to easily create and distribute surveys; collect and store data; analyze data; and produce reports.

SAS statistical software is available for free to use on Windows computers. The software can only be used for teaching and research. SAS JMP’s statistical software is available for free. JMP links statistics with graphics for users to see the relationships among data. VMware Academic Program
The VMware Academic Program (VMAP) supports the use of virtualization applications in teaching and research, and is available for free. The program provides both desktop and infrastructure software for individual use. VMAP is restricted for instructional and non-commercial research only, and cannot be used for infrastructure or commercial development.
Students can access the software by signing in to the VMware Academic Program Webstore using their Net-ID and password.
