Surveys (Qualtrics)


Qualtrics is a web-based survey service that is available for use by all Iowa State faculty, staff, and students. The ISU Qualtrics Survey Hosting Service allows the campus community to easily create and distribute surveys, collect and store data, analyze data, and produce reports.

Note: ISU's licensing agreement with Qualtrics is only for nonprofit use. Projects that involve for-profit or revenue-generating activities aren't covered under the license agreement.

Get Started

  1. Create a Qualtrics account and log in.

    Anyone with an ISU Net-ID can create a Qualtrics account. You can only create one account per Net-ID. A Qualtrics account is automatically created for you the first time you log in to the ISU Qualtrics website with your Net-ID and password.

    Note: If you already use Qualtrics, ISU's license agreement requires that you log in using your ISU Net-ID and password. You can migrate your existing projects into the ISU Qualtrics interface by indicating that you already have an account after you log in.

  2. Learn how to use Qualtrics.

    Qualtrics provides video tutorials covering how to build, distribute, and generate reports on Qualtrics surveys.

  3. Join the Qualtrics Users Group.

Qualtrics is an easy to use online survey tool and includes an advanced set of features. Some of the capabilities include:

  • a survey building wizard
  • dozens of sample surveys to customize
  • automatic email sending and tracking, including reminders
  • integrated graphics and statistical tools
  • the ability to download data into Excel or SPSS with the full syntax retained


This is a common good service available at no charge.
