Wireless Connectivity

Wireless access to the Iowa State network is available throughout campus to students, faculty, staff, and guests.

Connecting to Eduroam

Iowa State students, faculty, and staff have secure access to Iowa State's network, and at any participating Eduroam campus when they connect to the Eduroam wireless network. View the list of participating Eduroam campuses.

To connect to the Eduroam wireless network:

  1. Select EDUROAM from the available wireless networks or enter EDUROAM as the network name
  2. If required by your device or OS, select or enter any of the following information:
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES
    • EAP method: Protected EAP (PEAP)
    • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2
    • CA Certificate: Use system certificates
    • Domain: iastate.edu
    • Username / identity: Enter your Net-ID, followed by @iastate.edu*
    • Anonymous identity: @iastate.edu or leave blank
    • Password: your Net-ID password
  3. Once you are connected, you may be prompted to register your device

*Only use “netid@iastate.edu”; e.g. netid@cs.iastate.edu will not work.

Registering a Device

Desktop Computer, Laptop, or Mobile Device

  1. Connect to the Iowa State network (e.g., Eduroam)
  2. Open a web browser and go to Iowa State's Network Registration (NetReg) page
  3. Enter your Net-ID and password and click Next
  4. For computers only: Verify your computer name and subdomain and click Next
  5. Click I Agree on the NAT screen and the device will be registered
  6. Wait until the network assigns an IP address to your device
  7. Reboot your device when prompted
  8. You are ready to use the Iowa State network with this device

Game Consoles

  1. Attempt to connect to the Iowa State network
  2. Power off the console and disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cable
  3. Wait for one minute (some systems may take up to 15 minutes)
  4. Plug in the power cord and Ethernet cable
  5. Power on the console

Internet-Ready Televisions

Televisions must be manually registered through the Solution Center.

If you are unable to connect your device:

  • Contact the Solution Center with the following information: your Net-ID and the device's media access control (MAC) address.
  • For game consoles, also include the building name and room number where you are trying to connect

Guest Access

Wireless internet access is available to guests for seven days, or for the duration of the event you are attending. If you are a member of an Eduroam participating school, follow the instructions to connect to Eduroam logging in with your institution’s login credentials.

To access Iowa State’s wireless network:

  1. Open a web browser and go to Iowa State's Network Registration (NetReg) page
  2. If you are attending a specific event, select the event from the list then click Register Here
  3. Otherwise, click Guest Registration Here
  4. Enter your local contact information and click Next
  5. Read the terms and click I agree
  6. When instructed, close your browser and reboot your device to complete the registration process
  7. When you re-open your browser you will be connected to the Iowa State network
